Everybody seeks the potential Twitter has with its equivalent when they look for a medium to communicate. The Twitter service has social networking, instant messaging and micro-blogging features. It is designed for the people in general and also for the business community.
Twitter is popular among bloggers, techies, online marketers who are keen to promote their business and products online. People can stay connected with their family and friends with quick messages.
In this article, I’ve tried to bring out the six reasons why need to choose Twitter and how it can prove beneficial to you.
1. Twitter to make connections: Twitter allows you to stay in touch with your family, friends, colleagues at work and business partners in any part of the world. You can tweet your updates from anywhere and checkout what your friends are upto. If you are new to Twitter, use the Find People link on your Home page and search for people. You will be able to search by location and also by the choice of words used in their profile.
2. Real time information: Many people prefer to share on Twitter because they found real-time information more useful. For example while you shop, you tweet about the freebies given at the shop. This real-time information conveys an interesting news and conversations among friends begin. This type of information is valuable than an older or outdated one.
3. 140 characters @Twitter: A tweet measures just 140 characters of informal communication which means you convey a specific informal message. Twitter allows people to give updates briefly. As the tweet’s strength is minimum, a reader finds brevity in that. Tweeting in Twitter is super fast and easy to read. You can post updates frequently using the website on your PC or Mac or on an iPhone. Twitter is a communication tool which has the rapid response characteristic.
4. Power of re-tweet: When you press the re-tweet button for any tweet, you share and spread the tweet with the Twitter community. You can tweet your blogs and see how it spreads like a wild-fire. Followers who find your blogs worthy may re-tweet to their followers and the network grows on.
5. Tools to find friends: It is essential that we keep up with people in order to get business updates that can help us enhance our business. Here is a list of tools that will complement with Twitter and give the best network. Select the Twitter search tool that you want to use.
  • TweepSearch: This tool allows you to perform a specific search from the list of people following you.
  • Twellow: You can find people related to your industry with the help of the Twellow tool. As you can find people organized according to their industry, you can search for the desired people and choose to follow them.
  • Twitter Local: Get updates from people based on location with Twitter Local.
  • Twitter Search: Twitter Search tool is similar to Google search. When you search for a term, the search results lists the tweets which has the term or is a combination of terms. You can also search by Hashtag to view all Tweets with that tag. Advanced Search options offers specific search facility. Use the Advanced Search option to search based on people, location, attitude or links.
6. Promote your blog and social bookmarking submissions: If you have a blog and would like to promote it, Twitter can help you to a great extent. You can tweet with a link to your latest blog post.
Your blog tweet can bring more followers to your profile and instant responses in the form of views. You can also explore other blogs available in Twitter. Discover new authors and add them to your feed reader. Read through the different blog posts and if you think you can better them, ask for suggestions and get ideas from tweets. In Twitter you can request votes for your submissions at Digg and add votes for people who you feel deserve a vote for their submission at sites like StumbleUpon or Delicious.

How to post your Tweets To Facebook Automatically

Twitter has made it easier to send tweets to Facebook. All you have to do is click one single button. Here’s how:

First, log in to your Twitter account.
Next, click the “Profile” tab at the top of the screen, and then click “Edit Profile” just below your profile picture. Scroll down to the bottom of this page, and click the button that says “Post your Tweets to Facebook”. And that’s it!
(Note that you must also be signed in to Facebook for this to work. If you’re not, you’ll be asked to sign in and give your permission to the app before it will work)
In a smart move, Twitter will not send tweets that begin with an @mention to your Facebook wall, as these are usually meant for another, specific Twitter user and would likely be seen as spam by your Facebook friends.
Prior to this update, if you wanted to send a tweet to Facebook, you had to first find and authorize a Facebook app to access your Twitter account, and even then the functionality was spotty at best. This new functionality makes sending tweets to Facebook more of a native Twitter experience.
As a word of warning: Twitter and Facebook are two different networks with two different types of syntax and etiquette. It isn’t always advisable to connect one network to another, for fear of alienating your connections on both.

Twitter Tip: Don’t Auto-Connect Your Facebook And Twitter Accounts

Twitter has made it deceptively easy to connect your Twitter account to your Facebook account, but don’t be fooled. It’s usually not a good idea.
Twitter and Facebook are two distinct networks with two distinct sets of etiquette and norms. Posting all of your tweets to your Facebook wall may sound like a good idea at first (I can keep my friends updated oneverything going on in my life!), but believe me, neither your Facebook nor your Twitter friends will thank you.

How to do it

Before we get into the details of why it’s a bad idea to connect your Twitter to your Facebook account, here’s how to do it (for those who want to flout my advice):
As Twitter’s Help Center explains, you can post all of your tweets to your Facebook profile using an official application. You simply have to be logged in to your Twitter account and your Facebook account, and navigate to the app page: http://apps.facebook.com/twitter/. Then, just click “Allow” when asked if you want to connect your two accounts, and voila! you’re all hooked up.
After setting this up, all of your tweets will be simultaneously posted to your Facebook profile, with a little note at the bottom mentioning that it came from Twitter.

Why you shouldn’t

Now that you know how, here’s why you shouldn’t auto-tweet to your Facebook profile.
Twitter and Facebook are two very different networks. The people you’re connected to on Twitter expect different things than those you’re connected to on Facebook (even if most of them are the same group of people).
Twitter is a high-volume network, where you can tweet ten or twenty times a day and no one will say boo. Because you are encouraged to follow lots of different people – those you know and those you don’t – and because you don’t require their permission to do so, Twitter is a more informal and loosely connected network.
Facebook, on the other hand, is much more personal. You friend people who have to accept your friend request, implying some level of familiarity. The volume of updates on Facebook is much, much less than on Twitter! People expect one, maybe two status updates a day, maximum.
The culture of both networks is different, so if you combine them you risk alienating your audience. By posting your tweets to your Facebook profile, you’ll inundate your Facebook friends with status update after status update, taking over their newsfeed and appearing spammy. Those 10 tweets will fit perfectly within Twitter’s real-time home timeline, but they’ll clutter up your Facebook wall and may even result in a block or an unfriending.
The syntax of both networks is also different. Twitter relies on “#”s and “@”s to function and uses abbreviations like “RT”, while Facebook’s syntax is less niche. If your fill up your Facebook wall with status updates from Twitter like “@JustinBieber you #RockMyWorld RT @YourFriend Isn’t @JustinBieber so amazing?”, your Facebook friends will quickly become annoyed.

The exceptions

Of course, there are some exceptions to every rule.
If you don’t tweet very often (say, once or twice per day at the most, and not even every day at that), connecting Twitter to Facebook might not make much difference to your Facebook followers.
Still, the better way, in my opinion, to post a tweet to your Facebook wall is just by syncing both your Twitter account and your Facebook account to a dashboard like HootSuite, and selecting both networks for those tweets you feel also belong on Facebook. This way you can choose which Twitter messages to also post to Facebook, rather than being at the whim of an auto-updater.

Twitter Newbie Tip: Getting Past Stage Fright

If you’re new to Twitter or know someone who is, you’ll want to read this post.
We hear a lot about folks being hesitant to tweet because they’re afraid they’ll look foolish in some way, so instead they just silently observe – yet inside they long to join the fray. Know this: Twitter stage fright is the same as public speaking – you have to get out there and do it. It’s the only way to conquer it.
And we have some advice that will ease your mind.
Twitter is its own social animal. Nothing like Facebook – or even MySpace, for those who supposedly frequent that site, Twitter has a look, feel and interaction etiquette all its own.
The pace of the public feed streaming by can be disconcerting to new tweople – and once they figure out how the whole thing works, the confusion quickly turns to dread for many, with two questions looming large: What should I say? Will anyone notice/talk to me? It’s like the first day of school.
Here’s a tip: If you’re entirely stuck and don’t know what to say, a quick way to both find a topic and find folks to interact with is by jumping on a trending topic. Yes, they can be either lame or rowdy depending on the topic, but if you want to jump right in with something silly, there you go. Take today, for instance – who couldn’t think of SOMETHING to say about McDonalds’ McWings or Lies I Told My Parents?
OR – if you want a more professional route, you can always join in a Twitter chat. There are so many chats happening every day and covering a pretty endless list of topics. You can find out all about them, from how to join one to a master list of available chats here.
And if you start off on the wrong foot and can’t scroll back far enough to see what you did, you can always view your old tweets using one of these services and see how damaging they really were (you worry too much). Note that this will only work until you reach 3,200 tweets – after that point, there’s no going back!
Worst case? You can always delete your profile and those embarrassing tweets will go away . . . eventually. It’s best to learn to laugh at yourself and go with the flow though – or just avoid online participation entirely, as missteps are inevitable.
So tell those wallflowers to get out there and start tweeting!

Getting Twitter Traffic- Personal Experience

o, I am not going to tell you how successful I am with getting Twitter traffic; rather, I will tell how difficult it is to get any substantial traffic from Twitter.
Twitter is like this big thorn for my blog; a thorn I cannot do away with! Twitter is like King Solomon’s Treasure whom we wish to exist and it still remains as elusive as ever.
After reading about 15 e-books on Twitter tactics and employing about most of the methods, Twitter traffic on my blog is as pitiful as ever.
Google Analytics Statistics
Just to maintain accuracy, I just checked the GA figures and to my damnable surprise, G+ is giving me more traffic than Twitter…oh! I just hate this.
Is My Situation Similar For You?
Can anyone here relate with my situation? I am sure many of you are nodding your head in uniform acceptance and thinking – why doesn’t Twitter give more traffic?
Twitter Traffic Issues
Unless you getting using paid traffic from Twitter, it is difficult, I dare say. Of course, I am not recommending that you buy Twitter traffic.
The problem with Twitter, I think, is that it has reached a saturation point. If you have an active twitter account, open it, give it 60 seconds and see the number of Twitter updates.
Surprised?
Now, honestly, are you inclined to even browse the updates and click on links? If you are enthusiastic, you will do it the first time, the second time….then start slacking at the third time and it goes on…and mind you, we are talking about the updates on per minute basis!
Then, is Twitter a Failure?
Every time I see my twitter account, there is this guy whose tweets come every 15 seconds (yes, I timed it!). The links in these tweets direct to some marketing related YouTube video and oh boy! I was just pleasantly surprised to see the number of views…..and I am happy that maybe not for me, twitter seems to work for this guy.
The reason it worked is because of frequency of his tweets. Some may find it overbearing and intrusive (I did!) but it works. I don’t know whether he is doing it manually or some automated script but it is working for him.
What’s the Solution?
Honestly, it is not possible for me to send tweet updates every 15 second. I can’t and I am accepting it. And those marketing experts out there who say getting twitter traffic is easy can just rethink what they are saying because it definitely misguides us. I am still going to try to better this situation but in practicality, there is not much hope.
Anyways, enough of my ranting L What do you think? Any success with getting Twitter traffic?

HOW TO ADD FACEBOOK LIKE, TWITTER TWEET, GOOGLE PLUS ONE AND PINTEREST PIN IT BUTTON IN YOUR INDEX FILE (MULTIPLE BLOG POSTS) IN WORDPRESS ?

I think ever blogger and website developer want to have this widget. Now here is the information to get it.
It’s very easy and fast how to add the prominent Social Networking Buttons such as Facebook Like Button, Twitter ‘Tweet’ Button, Google ‘Plus One’ and the new addition to the social networking community, the Pinterest ‘Pin it’ button inside every blog post in your WordPress blog. Simple implementation guides on how to add the buttons are scattered across the world wide web. You just need to copy few codes, tweak some of it and paste it directly wherever you want to display it inside your single.php file.

Unfortunately, this method is not appropriate in your Index.php file or in a page with multiple post. If you do this method, you’re button will just return the active url in your web browser. The supposedly task to share the right blog post or url will not be met.

With few experimentations, I got to unravel how those buttons work. It’s very simple actually. The WordPress tag <?php the_title(); ?><?php the_permalink(); ?> and the other common php codes in WordPress will do the task for you.

To start this tutorial, let’s get first the button codes of Facebook Like, Twitter Tweet, Google +1 and Pinterest Pin it:
For this tutorial, I will pick out the Vertical Count buttons shown at the image below. You may choose whatever design you want. It’s still the same method.

HOW TO ADD FACEBOOK LIKE BUTTON IN YOUR INDEX.PHP FILE OR IN A PAGE WITH MULTIPLE BLOG POST.

Fill up the Step 1 – Get Like Button Code, in URL to Like field type in your website url (Example: http://bendaggers.com).
Add Facebook Like Button in your Index or in Multiple Blog Post
I chose not to activate the Send button, that’s why you see it unchecked.

Choose whatever layout, size, faces activated and others you want to display in your button. It really doesn’t matter. If your done with the configuration, just hit the Get Code button and select IFRAME:
Add Facebook Like Button in your Index or in Multiple Blog Post IFrame
Your generated code is something like this:
/**Facebook Like Button Code**/

<iframe src="//www.facebook.com/plugins/like.php?href=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.bendaggers.com&amp;send=false&amp;layout=box_count&amp;width=450&amp;show_faces=true&amp;action=like&amp;colorscheme=light&amp;font&amp;height=90&amp;appId=176463485768664" scrolling="no" frameborder="0" style="border:none; overflow:hidden; width:550px; height:90px;" allowTransparency="true"></iframe>

/**Facebook Like Button Code**/
Replace the http%3A%2F%2Fwww.bendaggers.com with <?php the_permalink(); ?>. Copy paste the tweaked Facebook Like Button Code in your Index.php where multiple blog posts can be found. Test it if it’s properly working and you’re done!

HOW TO ADD TWITTER TWEET BUTTON IN YOUR INDEX.PHP FILE OR IN A PAGE WITH MULTIPLE BLOG POST.

Go to the Twitter Button’s Resources page and scroll down until you reach the “Configuring using data attributes” (CTRL – F will help you to search and arrive in the right place). Copy the code displayed on that page.
/**Twitter Tweet Button Code**/

<a href="https://twitter.com/share" class="twitter-share-button" data-lang="en">Tweet</a>

<script>!function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js";fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document,"script","twitter-wjs");</script>

/**Twitter Tweet Button Code**/

Modify the code: From the 1st code add the codes below after “en”:
/**Twitter Tweet Button Code**/

data-url="<?php the_permalink(); ?>" data-text="<?php the_title(); ?>" data-count="vertical">

/**Twitter Tweet Button Code**/
Your final code for Twitter Tweet Button will be like this:
/**Twitter Tweet Button Code**/

<a href="https://twitter.com/share" class="twitter-share-button" data-url="<?php the_permalink(); ?>" data-text="<?php the_title(); ?>" data-count="vertical">Tweet</a>

/**Twitter Tweet Button Code**/
Place the above code in the appropriate position of your blog. Test the button if it’s working and you’re done!

Two out of Four and we’re done!

HOW TO ADD GOOGLE PLUS ONE BUTTON IN YOUR INDEX.PHP FILE OR IN A PAGE WITH MULTIPLE BLOG POST.

Visit the Official page Google Plus One Button. Customize the button that fits your preference.
Add Google Plus One Button in your Index or in Multiple Blog Post - Buttons

From the generated code you just copied, modify the first code by adding the highlighted text below:
/**Google Plus One Button Code**/

<g:plusone annotation="inline" href=<?php the_permalink(); ?></g:plusone>

/**Google Plus One Button Code**/
Paste the above code in the appropriate place you prefer.

Place second code which is a javascript inside the <head> tag of your index.php file
/**Google Plus One Button Code**/

<!-- Place this render call where appropriate --><script type="text/javascript"> (function() { var po = document.createElement('script'); po.type = 'text/javascript'; po.async = true; po.src = 'https://apis.google.com/js/plusone.js'; var s = document.getElementsByTagName('script')[0]; s.parentNode.insertBefore(po, s);})();</script>

/**Google Plus One Button Code**/

HOW TO ADD PINTEREST PIN IT BUTTON IN YOUR INDEX.PHP FILE OR IN A PAGE WITH MULTIPLE BLOG POST.

We’ve now arrived at the last button we’re implementing. Pin It button is very much different from the first three buttons we’ve just implemented. Adding the Pinterest Pin It Button in your Index file or in a page with multiple blog post requires the user to touch or add new function in the functions.php file.
To start this tutorial, we should get the Pinterest Pin It Button Code in their Official Pinterest Button page. Fill up the fields just like what the image shows below.
Add Pinterest Pin It Button in your Index or in Multiple Blog Post - Buttons
If you follow what’s in the image above, vour Pinterest Pin It code will be like this:
/**Pinterest Pin It Button Code**/

<a href="http://pinterest.com/pin/create/button/?url=***your%20website%20url%20here***&media=***your%20website%20image%20url%20here***&description=***your%20website%20blog%20post%20title%20here***" class="pin-it-button" count-layout="vertical"><img border="0" src="//assets.pinterest.com/images/PinExt.png" title="Pin It" /></a>

<script type="text/javascript" src="//assets.pinterest.com/js/pinit.js"></script>

/**Pinterest Pin It Button Code**/
Modify the code by replacing the following:
Change “***your website url here***” with <?php the_permalink() ?>
Change “***your website image url here***” with <?php echo grab_that_image() ?>
And finally, change “***your website blog post title here***”with <?php the_title(); ?> (you can also replace <?php the_title(); ?> to <?php the_excerpt(); ?> if you want to display the except of the blog post instead of the title).
After modifying the code, paste the entire code in the place where you want it to be displayed.
In my case, I placed the <script> code together with the first code or the <a> code.
The last thing to do is to add grab_that_image function in your functions.php file: Just copy and paste, no need for any modification.
function grab_that_image() {
global $post, $posts;
$first_img = '';
ob_start();
ob_end_clean();
$output = preg_match_all('/<img.+src=[\'"]([^\'"]+)[\'"].*>/i', $post->post_content, $matches);
$first_img = $matches [1] [0];
if(empty($first_img)){ //Defines a default image
$first_img = "/images/default.jpg";
}
return $first_img;
}
Once you’re done, you can now test the Pinterest Pin It Button If its properly working.
Hope you learned how to implement the four social networking buttons (Facebook ‘Like’ Button, Twitter ‘Tweet’ Button, Google ‘Plus One’ and Pinterest ‘Pin It’) and successfully implemented it in your WordPress website.
If you find any trouble, just hit me in the comments section. Thank you and have a good day!

Advanced Twitter Listening Tip: Track More Than Just Your Mentions

Twitter is as much – and maybe more – about listening as it is about broadcasting. If you want your business or personal Twitter account to succeed, you’ve got to have a listening strategy in place in order to access valuable feedback, learn, and engage your customers and connections.
But if your listening strategy involves checking out your “@ Connect” folder every once in a while for users mentioning your Twitter handle, you’ve got a long way to go.

Listening on Twitter involves thinking strategically, and thinking like your customers.
For instance, if you wanted to gripe about that lukewarm coffee you just got from your local mom and pop on Twitter, how would you do it?
You might do a quick Google search for their Twitter handle and mention them in your tweet…
“Disappointed with @MomAndPops coffee this morning! #notagoodwaytowakeup”
…Or you might not. Instead, many people simply type “Mom & Pop’s Shop” in their tweet like like:
“Disappointed with Mom & Pop’s Shop coffee this morning! #notagoodwaytowakeup”
And in order to move on customer complaints, comments and questions like the one above, you’ve got to cast a wider listening net than just your @username.
Spend 15 minutes brainstorming as many names as you can that people might use to “tag” your business (or yourself) in their tweets. Start with your @username and full business name of course, but get as creative as you can with the others.
For instance, do you have a popular product? A tagline? Slogan? Prominent CEO? Gather all of the identifiable keywords that people might use to reference your business on Twitter in a single document.
Next, create one or several saved searches that cover the spectrum of these keywords. I say several because some might group more effectively with others: Your five different products might make sense in one saved search, while your three Twitter handles might belong in another.
Be sure to set up a monitoring schedule for when you’ll look at these saved searches. I suggest checking in at least twice a day, morning and evening, to be sure you don’t miss a customer’s Twitter inquiry. And, it goes without saying, you must actively respond to customers mentioning you on Twitter if you want to build a community and be perceived as a business that is socially savvy.
How do you listening on Twitter? Share your strategies with us in the comments below.
